Wto Sport – Musisi legendaris Paul “Macca” McCartney menyatakan kesedihan dan ungkapan belasungkawa atas kepergian sahabatnya di band Wings yaitu Denny Laine dan mengenang banyak memori menyenangkan antara The Beatles dan Wings pada masa lalu.
“Saya sangat sedih mendengar mantan rekan band saya, Denny Laine, telah meninggal,” tulis Macca di akun instagram pribadi @paulmccartney seraya menampilkan foto sang sahabat.
“Saya mempunyai banyak kenangan indah saat bersama Denny dari masa-masa awal The Beatles melakukan tur bersama Moody Blues. Kedua band kami sangat menghormati satu sama lain dan bersenang-senang bersama. Denny bergabung dengan Wings sejak awal. Dia adalah vokalis dan pemain gitar yang luar biasa. Penampilannya yang paling terkenal mungkin adalah ‘Go Now’, sebuah lagu lama Bessie Banks yang dia nyanyikan dengan cemerlang,” tulis Macca.
Lebih lanjut Macca mengungkapkan bahwa dia dan Laine menulis beberapa lagu bersama-sama. Salah satu yang paling sukses adalah “Mull of Kintyre” yang menjadi hit besar pada tahun ’70-an.
“Kami sempat berpisah, namun dalam beberapa tahun terakhir kami berhasil membangun kembali persahabatan dan berbagi kenangan saat kami bersama,” tulis Macca.
Macca yang sebelumnya juga sempat membagikan unggahan perayaan 50 tahun album Wings “Band on the Run”, menuliskan bahwa Laine adalah seorang talenta hebat dengan selera humor yang bagus dan selalu siap membantu orang lain. Sosok Laine, Macca melanjutkan, akan selalu dirindukan oleh semua penggemar dan dikenang dengan penuh kasih sayang oleh teman-temannya.
“Saya menyampaikan belasungkawa dan harapan terbaik saya kepada istrinya, Elizabeth dan keluarganya. Damai dan cinta untuk Denny. Senang mengenal Anda. Kami semua akan merindukan dirimu,” tulis Macca.
Denny Laine dikabarkan mangkat pada usia 79 tahun akibat komplikasi kesehatan, Selasa (5/12) waktu FloridaAS. Informasi meninggalnyaLaine disampaikan oleh sang istri yaitu Elizabeth Hines melalui laman pribadi Facebook. Menurut Hines, penyakit Paru Interstisial (ILD) Laine tidak dapat diprediksi dan bersifat agresif sehingga setiap infeksi melemahkan dan merusak paru-parunya.
