Kementerian PUPR saat ini membangun jaringan untuk menyalurkan air baku dari Bendungan Karian ke wilayah Jakarta dan sekitarnya.
Pembangunan Bendungan Kariansalah satu program Kementerian PUPR untuk mencapai kebijakan agar masyarakat Jabodetabek tidak lagi menggunakan air tanah.
“Target kita 2030 tidak ada lagi orang yang menggunakan air tanah, karena penggunaan air tanah menyebabkan penurunan permukaan air tanah Jakarta. Dengan demikian Kementerian PUPR harus menyediakan sumber daya air penggantinya terlebih dahulu kepada masyarakat, agar dapat menghentikan penggunaan air tanah secara permanen di Jakarta. Kalau belum ada sumber daya air penggantinya, maka sulit untuk menghentikan masyarakat tidak menggunakan air tanah,” kata Endra.
Selain itu, kata dia, Bendungan Karian sempat digunakan untuk membantu penyaluran air dalam rangka mengatasi fenomena El Nino atau musim kemarau.
